October is the peak season for leaf color in the mountains of western North Carolina and the perfect time for novelists to gather for inspiration, encouragement, improving skills and practicing creativity. If you don’t have an idea in mind, we’ll help you find that too.
Retreat for writers wanting to learn more about the craft and creativity of writing novels - all genres- contemporary and historical.

Edie Melson - any genre - also will give social media and blog critiques. Will give the attendee an overview of what’s right and what can be improved. She will hand each you’re doing right and what you can improve on. She will provide a three-page checklist for continued use. Winners in Novel/Novella and Best Finished Unpublished Novel, with winner permission, will be considered for a contract with Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas in the categories of Contemporary/Historical Romance, Historical Fiction, Suspense, Bling!, Cozy Mystery.
Winners also considered by agents for representation
If entries are not ready for agents or publication, the awards will be Critiques, Skype, Comments

BEST PROPOSAL for NOVEL or NOVELLA by unpublished novelist
Entry fees $25
1. Novellas: (fiction stories ranging from 18,000 to 30,000 words) - Submit one and a half page synopsis (single spaced - double between paragraphs) and first chapters, not to exceed 20 double-spaced pages.
2. Novels: (fiction stories ranging from 45,000 to 85,000+) - Submit a two-page synopsis and first chapters, not to exceed 40 pages (if prolog submitted, its part of the 40 pages) - double-space all pages. Please state the genre on the coversheet.
GOLDEN LEAF AWARD
BEST FINISHED UNPUBLISHED NOVEL or NOVELLA by 2015 Novel Retreat conferee (the author may be previously published or not - if author is published, give a brief bio of published works and publisher)

Free critique of first 40 pages and additional comments - will be considered for publication with LPC
